Crowley's Ridge State Park is hosting its annual Fishing on the Ridge fishing derby for children ages 15 and under at Walcott Lake on Saturday, May 25th 2019. The derby will be from 8:00-10:30AM with prizes being awarded in different categories right after the derby is finished. Participants should meet at the Walcott Lake fishing pier and need to bring their own poles, and live or artificial bait. No registration fee is required. Parents or guardians must accompany their children who participate. Only on pole per child. Later that afternoon, we will have a live snake show at the amphitheater. Guests will get an up close look at some of our native snakes in Arkansas and learn how to tell the difference between a native and non-native snake. Guests will also learn about exotic snakes and all the care and attention these special scaly friends require. Get the "scoop on Scales" from 1:30-2:30 with us! If live animals doesn't suit you, stick around for a short scales and scutes program. This fun reptile program is great for all ages and allows guests to get the hands on experience without getting close to a live specimen.
Celebration activities will continue Sunday and Monday with different interpretive programs, activities, swimming, and pedal boats. On Sunday, join us in a free Kayaking 101: Learning the basics demonstration. This kayaking demonstration will show participants the basics of kayaking, from learning the equipment to taking a leisurely stroll in Lake Ponder. This demonstration will take place at Lake Ponder beach, is free of charge, and no registration is required.
Monday, May 27th, will be full of Memorial Day festivities. Kick off the day by embarking on a lakeside kayakig adventure with our Kayak Tour on Walcott Lake at 8:00 AM. While on this relaxing stroll, get an up close look at what spring has brought us this year and learn about the history of the park. Participants will need to have some basic knowledge of kayaking in order to participate. All kayaking equipment will be supplied but participants are welcomed to bring their own kayak and equipment if preferred. There is a fee for this tour. If interested, please contact the park. We will also have Dee Jay D playing some awesome music at Lake Ponder from 1:00- 5:00PM while the whole family swims and rides the pedal boats. Musical games and scavenger hunts will take place the rest of the afternoon.
