The Paragould Fire Department currently operates four fire stations. Station One is located at 1405 W. Kingshighway and contains the administrative offices. Station Two is located at 801 E. Court Street and is scheduled to be replaced in 2011. Station Three is located at 4818 Walcott Road and is currently the newest station. Station Four is located at 3406 Linwood Dr. next to the Community Center. The Fire Department conducts building inspection and preplans of all the commercial building in the city. The information gathered from these inspections is used in the event that they should have to respond to an incident at any of the locations. The inspections are used to verify that all fire codes or followed, currently the city of Paragould has adopted the 2007 Arkansas Fire Prevention Code. Working with local industry, nursing homes and other businesses the fire department helps to train people in the use of fire extinguishers and general fire safety. Each year near Fire Safety Week the Fire Department hosts approximately 2000 3rd and 4th grade students from Greene County and Southeast Missouri with the Fire Safety House, a mobile facility used to teach children how to prevent fires as well as how to get out safely if a fire were to occur in their home. During the year we visit with numerous schools, daycares and scouting groups to teach fire safety. The Paragould Fire Department consists of 29 Full time firefighters and 2 relief drivers. The members train may hours a year to keep their Arkansas Certified Firefighter rating. All members are also trained as Hazmat Technicians and must do several hours per year of continuing education to keep that certification. The PFD is equipped to respond to hazmat incidents confined space rescues and many other incidents that may arise other than fires. The fire department’s response equipment consists of five first in engines, one rescue truck, one 100’ tower ladder truck, one brush truck, one tanker truck, two hazmat response units and a command pickup. We have two reserve engines and one 75’ reserve ladder truck. The City of Paragould currently has a Class 3 Fire Rating. With the support of the citizens of Paragould, City Council and the Mayor the PFD has been very fortunate to be able to increase or response capabilites and keep the most up to date equipment available, and is now looking forward to a new fire station to replace station No. 2 in 2011. |
